With ovens and stovetops working overtime, keep a clear area around hot surfaces and turn pot handles inward. In Westport and throughout the South Coast, local fire departments see more kitchen accidents this week than any other-so a quick safety check goes a long way.

Before fireplaces and space heaters get steady use, look over your household fire extinguishers to confirm they're charged and easy to reach. It's a quick seasonal check that adds peace of mind during the winter months.

Ovens stay busy on Thanksgiving Day-so turn down your thermostat a few degrees while cooking. Between the heat from your oven and a full house, your Westport home will stay comfortable and efficient without extra energy use.
~ It's that time of Year Mice and Rats are looking for a Home
Most people don't realize how deadly rat poison is for wildlife. Owls, hawks, foxes, and even pets end up eating poisoned rodents... and they die slowly, silently, and painfully because of it.
Here's what you can do instead:
• Use enclosed snap traps so scavengers can't reach the rodent.
• Seal holes and entry points around your home shed and barn
• Store food properly so rodents aren't attracted. -We keep dog and chicken feed in metal trash cans.
Poison doesn't just kill rodents, it destroys whole ecosystems. Please avoid using it.
